Tors and Cheleken Upstart win 1* Grand Prix.
A great show for us at the Tauranga Showjumping Championships. With only 3 horses going through to the jumpoff from a field of 29, Upstart and Victoria were the only combination to jump double clear.
Beautifully prepared grounds and courses built by visiting International Course Builder Rob Jansen provided spectators and riders with three days of excellent jumping.
Cathay Pacific Horse One Star Grand Prix: Victoria Rattray (Auckland) Cheleken Upstart 1, Kim Zander (Otane) Itsabitsa 2, Mark Brookes (Cambridge) 3, Paula Mussen (Morrinsville) Grindley 4, Vicki Wilson (Whangarei) Witheze 5, Tess Williams (Gisborne) Walnut Brown 6.
Thanks to Farmlands and Cathay Pacific for their sponsorship of this class and support of NZ Showjumping.

We have another sleepless night with the arrival of a beautiful grey filly by Pico Bello out of Silva - a Waipoa stationbred mare - also the dam of Moonlight. Silva has some serious complications 8 hours post foaling and we very nearly lose her; but thanks to Rosie , Kelly and the team at Vet Associates she pulls through and we pick her and " Penny " up from the clinic a week later. |

Christmas Day has a surprise for us at around at 4.30 am. Nui produces a dark brown colt by Senator VDL. Cheleken Toto is a full brother to Tara. He is a tall, leggy colt with loads of personality, excellent conformation and look at me presence. We are very lucky to have two progeny from this mare in one season. |

Our next arrival is an embryo transfer filly , by Senator VDL out of Nui , a NZ Stationbred mare who has produced many well performed Showjumpers for us . Cheleken Tara is born chestnut with long white socks all round but very quickly loses her foal coat and chooses grey....a year later she is very close to being completely white! Strong and intelligent with elevated movement she is a tall and powerful filly who loves to get in the air , expected to mature at 17hh she will definitely standout. |

We are thrilled to have our first foal born on the new property. Cheleken Kea is a striking chestnut filly by Pico Bello (imp Belgium) x Decoration (Distlefink x Artic Oak ) Kea is beautifully proportioned, extremely athletic with tons of presence and springs in her legs...her canter is fantastic to watch and she loves to throw in some acrobatics to keep her audience interested . She is definitely a future showjumper!! |

A busy season finishes off with good results at Horse of the Year Show. Moonlight placed 5th in the Speed Horse of the Year title. The promsing 5 yr old Cheleken Voyager jumped well all show qualifying for the 5 yr old Showjumping final ...a stylish double clear for an overall place of 5th in a very fast and hotly contested jumpoff . Tauranga World Cup Show. Friday was the perfect weather…unfortunately too good to be true. Another wet show with horses jumping in very muddy conditions.
San Mateo Addictive proved her sure footedness to win the 1.25m on Saturday . 5 yr old Cheleken Voyager coped well to finish 6th in the 1.15m Championship.
The World Cup Class produced some impressive jumping from Simon Wilson on the 8yr old Vita Power Right Royal [pictured] to win the class in his first World Cup Start. |

Ti Papa, Auckland. A good show for us with all the horses jumping well. Victoria picked up the ride on Olivia Baudinet’s San Mateo Addictive and formed a good partnership, winning the Slalom Challenge and placing 2nd in the 1.20m indoors on Sunday.
Cheleken Upstart jumped clear in the 1.30m Table C for 6th, and was unlucky to have one down in the Grand Prix on Sunday. Cheleken Voyager placed 2nd in the 1.15m Championship on Sunday.
Moonlight was awarded a huge basket of Charisma grooming products for best-presented horse. Thanks to the Mark Todd Collection for this prize |

Our season kicked off to the traditional Kiwi beginning of summer.
Two days of steady rain turned Rotorua Showgrounds into a swamp. Our first day went well with Moonlight jumping clear in the 1.20m for one down in the jump off. Cheleken Voyager finished 7th in a 1.10m class of over 100 horses...well-done judges!
In less than favourable conditions Moonlight jumped clear in the first round of the 1.25m Championship and followed through with a quick clear jump off to win the class. |

Winter is definitely here; we are in the middle of breaking in all those youngsters who enjoyed a relaxing summer while we were out competing . We have some very promising looking young horses for next season. Ch. Heidi, a four year old mare by Ramirez x Aberlou mare is showing great technique. The three year olds are still hairy and looking a long way from the ring. Bring on the sunshine! |
